The Home Office are proposing to stop the use of manual board card for all migrants entering the UK from October 2017, before they have fully tested and introduced an online replacement system. This with result in the loss of some current immigration data collection in the interim and changes to the compatibility of some future data set in the future. Migration card data isn’t used by ONS directly to produce International Passenger Survey data. Based on the immediate cost saving benefits the Home Office view the data loss as acceptable.
